Piping & Repiping

Offering Pipe Installation, Repair, Inspection, and Replacement

We offer both piping and repiping services in Eastern Idaho. Piping refers to original pipe installation, and repiping is the replacement of current pipes. In addition to our piping and repiping services, we offer pipe repair and inspection.

When to Schedule Piping Services

There are multiple times during homeownership when scheduling piping services can be beneficial.

For example, when a washer and dryer are moved to a new area of the home, trust professional pipe installation for assurance that codes are met and pipes are securely in place. Also, piping may be involved after relocating a refrigerator. A more extensive home remodel may involve adding or relocating bathroom fixtures, requiring water pipe installation.

Reasons for Pipe Replacement

Two major reasons for pipe replacement are natural degradation and hard water buildup. Improper installation, consistent water pressure, and the widening of copper pipes are all reasons to replace water pipes.

Replacing older pipes may be advisable to avoid safety concerns due to lead contamination, water impurity, lessened water flow, and more.

Natural Degradation

Pipe material degrades over time, leading to leaks.

Plastic pipes can become brittle and crack when water pressure changes or split due to cold temperatures. Plastic pipe connections can also degrade and eventually leak.

Metal pipes, such as copper, can degrade from electrolysis eating away at the pipes or from the turbulence of the water eroding the pipe and fittings. Both types of degradation can eventually cause pipes to leak.

Hard Water Buildup

Hard water deposits can build up inside pipes, restricting waterflow. When this happens, water pressure goes down and simple water-realted tasks can become very frustrating. Generally, the best solution is to replace the pipes with such as PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) piping. PEX piping allows for excellent water flow and will last for generations.

Improper Installation

Pipes that were poorly installed can also lead to leaks. Improperly installed plastic pipes can fracture due to over-tension or insufficient support. Leaks in metal pipes can result from incorrectly tightened fittings, misalignment, and other installation issues.

Consistent Water Pressure

The repetition of consistent water flowing through piping can loosen joint fittings and wear down pipe walls, leading to leaks.

Damaged Copper Pipes

Hot water can damage copper pipes, putting pressure on fittings and leading to weakened joints. Thin copper pipes may develop weak spots that can leak after time.

Water Pipe Q and A

PEX pipes are reliable, plastic pipes that have become regularly used. “PEX” refers to cross-linked polyethylene plastic, which can handle cold and hot water and is corrosion-resistant.

Properly installed PEX pipes may last for 40-50 years, or longer.

If the pipes in your home are past their recommended or expected age, repiping is recommended. Pipes that frequently leak or show signs of corrosion should be replaced. Water discoloration and low water pressure in your home overall also signify that it may be time for new pipes.
