Air Quality

Air Filtration & Air Flow

As humans we spend the majority of our time indoors. Because our homes are built to be much more efficient they do not breathe as much as older homes used to. This can result in trapping much of the smells, particulates, gasses and contaminants inside the home.

Generally indoor air is much worse than fresh outdoor air. Think about every time we cook, bathe, use the bathroom, breathe, fart and so much more. All that is trapped inside. If we turn on an exhaust fan to get rid of it, where is the replacement clean air coming from?

If it hasn’t been planned for, our fresh replacement air may be coming form the attic or through the insulated walls wherever it can find a space. Often the “fresh” air is more contaminated than the stale air we were exhausting because it came from bad places.

Air ducts | Air filters

Cleaner air, cleaner home

Start breathing cleaner air

What can we do about it? First we need to clean your air ducts. Second we need to install an air filtration system that can catch more of the particulates that are floating around. Third we need to install an air purification system that can clean up the odors, and gasses that are trapped inside.

We have a couple of different products that can accomplish this. Beware of scams and “snake oil” products that are offered. Many do not do what is claimed.

Lennox Pure Air

The Lennox Pure Air air filtration and purification system is one of the best you can buy. It utilizes a MERV 16 charcoal impregnated filter to catch 95% of the particles down to .3 microns. Next it uses a strong UV light to neutralize viruses and bacteria. Lastly it utilizes a photocatalyst that neutralizes odors and destroys ozone. The carbon in the filter combined with the photocatalyst removes odors very effectively. The UV lamp restores the capacity of the carbon to continue to absorb odors.

In most homes the filter and lamp along with the photocatalyst are replaced on an annual basis so you always have strong fresh protection.

Polarized Media Air Cleaner

The polarized media air cleaner is a 1” filter that uses an electrical charge to attract and capture 97% of particles down to .3 micron. The filters generally need to be replaced every 3 months.  This filter allows for great air filtration in a standard 1” filter space while allowing excellent airflow.

BIOFORCE Defender Germicidal UVC/UVV

The Bioforce defender germicidal lamps are strong enough to kill and neutralize bacteria and viruses that flow through your air ducts. Besides neutralizing viruses and bacteria, it also uses a small amount of Ozone to help neutralize and destroy odors. The lamps generally last 2 years before needing to be replaced.

APRILAIRE 800 Steam Humidifier

In our dry high desert climate, humidification in the winter time can be very important for comfort and health. We generally utilize the APRILAIRE 800 steam humidifier, or the APRILAIRE 700 powered humidifier. By raising the humidity to around 40% we can really help with sinus issues, dry skin, wood not cracking, and using less lotion. Higher indoor humidity also feels warmer in the winter.

It is important to not over humidify since this can cause mold build up.

Excellent Job—He's very professional and explained things clearly. I want him to do my tune-ups going forward! Great guy!

Air quality FAQ

Many factors can lead homeowners to recognize the worsened state of their air quality, including:

  • Excessive amount of pet dander/hair throughout the home
  • Buildup of dust/particles
  • Abundance of gases and cleaning products leftover from use
  • Worsening odors throughout the house

Studies show that HVAC units are the culprit for worsened air quality 2 out of 3 times. If you have ducts throughout your home, it's likely they are contributing to worsened air quality if they haven't been regularly cleaned and maintained.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air quality is one of the top 5 health threats facing Americans today. Due to the amount of time spent indoors, more health concerns are growing related to air quality.

Extremely. You and your families health are at stake each and every day without addressing the larger concern of air quality. The average American breathes roughly 3,000 gallons of oxygen a day, making it one of the most constant sources of hazardous material intake. Improving air quality can drastically improve quality of life.
