The process of installing an AC unit can take anywhere from 1 - 2 days. An expert will come to your home to first inspect any issues, hazards, or indicators that may alter the installation timeframe.
One of the most exciting “luxuries” is that of air conditioning. There are not many other things that you can do to improve your home that will have a greater impact than being more comfortable with the right temperature. You will sleep better, generally be in a better mood, and enjoy the comforts of your own home when it is cool and comfortable.
You may make it so nice you will never want to leave. Adding, upgrading, or replacing your air conditioner usually can be done in a day or two. It generally involves the following components:
- Condenser (outdoor unit—properly sized for home and air system)
- Bigger is not always better
- Copper refrigerant line-set
- Pad for condenser to sit on
- Electrical circuit including disconnect and wiring
- Thermostat and connected wiring
- Evaporator coil (installs in air stream of furnace)
- Furnace blower
- Condensate drain
- Refrigerant
- Good quality air filter that doesn't restrict airflow
- Air ducts that are sized to match the AC unit
CAUTION: Air conditioning refrigerants are regulated by the Federal Government. Purchasing and handling refrigerants requires certification and licensing. These substances can cause severe burns (frozen), or even the loss of limbs. First Call Jewel to have the most experienced, licensed, insured specialists keep you safe and comfortable.

2025 Refrigerant Mandate
Handling air conditioning refrigerants is controlled by the federal government and require a certification and license to purchase and handle. They are dangerous in that you can be burned (frozen) to the point of losing skin or a limb.
Starting in 2025, all manufacturers are required to switch to a new refrigerant that has lower GWP (global warming potential) making it more “environment friendly.” Most manufacturers have chosen to use 454B which has a small amount of propane in it so it can be slightly flammable. Consequently new AC units also require a leak detector built in to notify in the event of a leak.
Because of the new refrigerant requirements, all of the models are changing and having to be re-certified. Installing a new AC is not a very homeowner friendly process since it requires special tools and understanding to properly evacuate and charge the systems. Also a federal license is required to handle refrigerants.
Excellent Service—I miscommunicated the install date and they worked to change and make it happen within a day.

AC Installation FAQ
How long does it take to install an AC system?
Should I try to install my AC unit myself?
Window unit systems are relatively easy to plug in and run right out of the box. Central air systems, however, are complex machinery that relies on precises installation to run as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. It's almost always recommended to rely on a First Call Jewel professional before attempting any AC unit installation.
If anything wrong happens during installation, are you insured?
Yep, First Call Jewel is licensed and insured to handle any AC installation or accidents that may arise. We're experts for a reason, but that doesn't mean accidents can't happen. That's exactly why we're insured to cover our customers and our livelihood in the event of mishaps.
