Do you run out of hot water?

Assuming there is nothing wrong with your water heater, there is a solution that is not very expensive that can almost double your hot water. The solution is a tank booster.

A water heater tank booster can give you up to 40% more hot water. It works by allowing the water tank to be heated up to around 140 degrees F (normally way too hot for normal use). When hot water is drawn from the tank the booster mixes cold water back in to bring it down to a safe 120 degrees. This extends the amount of stored hot water significantly.

Why only 120°F out to the faucets?

Scalding is a real potential hazard, and anything higher than 120°F presents a scalding risk

A side advantage is 140°F is hot enough to kill bacteria which makes storing water even safer.

In my personal home, I used to have a tankless type water heater. I have tried multiple brands of tankless and will write more about that later.

We now have a 50 gallon gas power-vent water heater that is heated to 140°F+. The tank booster then lowers it down to around 120°F where it goes into a 50 gallon electric water used as a storage tank. The electric elements keep the storage tank at temperature. With this setup, we have a very reliable almost endless supply of hot water.

If you would like more hot water, I highly recommend a tank booster. They're not that expensive. You’ll be glad you did it!
