Having enough light makes all the difference

Let There Be Light

Have you ever tried to read a book and wanted more light?

Yes, my living room was too dark.  (It has nothing to do with my age, lol).  I couldn't sit and read a book because it was too dark to really see without eye strain.  After dealing with it for years, it was time to make a change.

After measuring the room and much debating with my better half, it was decided to add 5 wafer lights to go with the existing fan light in the room.   We didn’t want a light directly over the tv to cause any glare.

We added the lights and wired them all in.  It took a good part of the day but using my fish sticks, I was able to do it without too much attic work.

I also added a dimmer switch, so we can choose the amount of light.   I can dim the lights down for watching a movie or have them bright while the kids are doing their homework.   I am a tech guy, so I installed the Leviton smart dimmer.  The dimmer can be controlled by the switch, or my phone.   I can set schedules on it so it will turn on and off automatically.   This way when I am away from home the lights will automatically turn on and off.

We also replaced the lamps in the fan light because we liked the 41K color.   When it comes to color, the lower the “k” number the more yellow the light.  The eyes tend to see better in higher “k” number scales

Finally, I can see.  The room feels bright and cheery.   Due to the life span of today’s LED lamps, I will enjoy this for many years.   As I age the additional light will help my quality of life.   Also, the dimmer allows me to decide at any minute what amount of light I want at any time.  The best benefit is my beautiful, awesome wife, is happy!

Best wishes
